I use RIP installation.  Using LCNC is fine. But setting rip environment is annoying.
I have to:
1) run terminal
2) set directory: cd /home/zdenek/linuxcnc/linuxcnc-2.8/scripts
3) use: source rip-environment

I wanted make Desktop Entry:
[Desktop Entry]
Version=1.0
Type=Application
Name=RIP environment
Comment=
Exec=xfce4-terminal -e "source /home/zdenek/linuxcnc/linuxcnc-2.8/scripts/rip-environment" -H
Icon=
Path=
Terminal=true
StartupNotify=false
But it dont work.

I apologize for Czech Location.

I'm not sure how to set up a desktop entry for this, but you can at least make it easier: you don't have to change directory. Just run '. /home/zdenek/linuxcnc/linuxcnc-2.8/scripts/rip-environment'.

I use run-in-place too, and I use the bash search function: once you have run the above line once, the next time you can type Ctrl-r and then just type 'rip' and the entire line will be found (just press Enter to execute). So not much to type after all.

Exec=xfce4-terminal -e "source /home/zdenek/linuxcnc/linuxcnc-2.8/scripts/rip-environment" -H
Try
Exec=xfce4-terminal -e "/home/zdenek/linuxcnc/linuxcnc-2.8/scripts/rip-environment" -H
Or
Exec=xfce4-terminal -e "./home/zdenek/linuxcnc/linuxcnc-2.8/scripts/rip-environment" -H

Exec=xfce4-terminal -e "/home/zdenek/linuxcnc/linuxcnc-2.8/scripts/rip-environment" -H

Maybe
Exec=xfce4-terminal -e "/home/zdenek/linuxcnc/linuxcnc-2.8/scripts/rip-environment linuxcnc configs/nameoffolder/yourinihere.ini" -H
Just change the stuff after configs.

Why don't you just build a deb and install it? Problem solved...

You can call the linuxcnc script directly, it will set the environment, this is from a desktop launcher in MXLinux21
xfce4-terminal -e "/home/phill/linuxcnc-dev/scripts/linuxcnc /home/phill/linuxcnc/configs/1_met/aaa.ini" -H
