best realtime kernel for Master branch on Bookworm was created by Roguish
Hey all.
Ok, just did full upgrade from bullseye to bookworm.
Installed the latest debs from buildbot2 (linuxcnc-uspace_2.10.0~pre0.2406.g095f7f0b4b_amd64.deb and the rest)
I've been running the 4.19.0-21-rt-amd kernel.
Is there a newish one to use? better maybe? or at least a bit more current???
Thanks in advance.....

BookWorm will install 6.1 RT kernel when installing LinuxCNC, but that is 2.9 not 2.10.
You can remove 2.10, install 2.9 with
sudo apt update
sudo apt install linuxcnc-uspace
then remove 2.9 and install 2.10 using the deb.

thanks,
but which 6.1 kernel exactly?
using Synaptic, it's easy to find the rt kernels, especially with a long list of repositories.

On all systems i have, it is better than 4.09 and 4.19, except on one laptop, so yes it is OK.

I would only consider upgrading a kernel if the default is not cutting it in some area.
I have built a 6.3 kernel some people have used but now kernel.org hjas advanced to 6.6 kernel
I've been meaning to give a later kernel a go. It should be faster again...

well, I did your suggestion. uninstalled 2.10master, installed 2.9 thru synaptic, and then changed from the 6.5 kernel to the 6.1.0.13 kernel.
everything seems to be working. haven't done any real machining yet, but lcnc starts up fine...looks good.
thanks for the advice.

OH boy. new problem, I think, with 2.10...
Ok, I uninstalled the 2.9 that I had, downloaded the latest 2.10 debs from buildbot2, and installed them.
Since I'm using qtdragon, a little customized, I copied files around for it. easy, I have a script file.....
Started up linxcnc and everything sort of looks ok, except there is a constant stream of messages in the command window (I usually start up in a command window)
see the picture attached.
does this wether I use my old 4.19rt kernel, or the newer 6.1rt kernel....
to get past this I have gone back to 2.9.1 and all is ok.
but seems like a problem in 2.10.... So, whaz up????
Andy or Seb ????
