EMC2 likes 1 core better than 6?

For what it is worth...

I am upgrading one of my office computers with a new AMD 6 core. I have no plans on running a real machine on it but like to have EMC loaded for testing. I plan to install EMC as a pure simulator which I am sure will work fine.

Just for the heck of it before I do that I loaded the 10.04 live CD with EMC. The results were similar to what has been reported before. Latency test does not run and EMC will report an error and not run.

Set computer to 2 cores in BIOS
Latency test good
EMC still error

Set computer to 1 core in BIOS
Latency test good
EMC now appears to run fine.

Similar results might be achieved with "maxcpus=1" as shown in the knowledge base.

This seems a bit odd, as the LiveCD kernel appears to have been compiled on a 6-core CPU (if you read the dmesg output)

Not surprising is that the 8.04 Live CD did not want to load but 10.04 loaded.
I did not try any "fixes" to get things working as using this machine is not a priority, but it is encouraging to see that this modern board may very well work with EMC.
A half hour run showed good latency and no signs of problems.

I compiled on a 6-core, but could not get it to run on it. Seems to like dual and single only. I haven't had time to do more troubleshooting as to why it won't run on a 6-core...
