I am trying to run this on an industrial single board computer, it is a pentium 3 and pretty fast.
Ubuntu works fine but EMC2 crashes, I am new to this, I was a mach 3 user.
I am hoping it will run on these machines they will make nice CNC computers.
Here is the errors:

[ 0.000000] Local APIC disabled by BIOS -- you can enable it with "lapic"
[ 0.000000] APIC: disable apic facility

this problem was already disussed several times in this forum, it should be easy to find the related threads.

OK, Found some threads on Lapic, and i read that: 0.050622] Local APIC not detected. Using dummy APIC emulation.
Pretty much means this computer is not going to work is that true?
Thanks

Not with 10.04 (until someone compiles a non LAPIC RTAI kernel for 10.04)
its likely your system will work with with 8.04 however

No I have not changed anything.

You must mean this:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"

to

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash lapic"

and then run update-grub and reboot

Ok, Where is this line of code? and How do I run the update-grub?
Thanks

its in this file: /etc/default/grub, but be sure to edit it with admin priviledge (e.g. sudo).
to run update-grub, open a terminal and type sudo update-grub <return>, enter your password when asked, and then reboot.
If it still does not work search for the words "Using dummy APIC emulation." in the error message.
If you find this message, bad luck.

Ok, Gave up on version 10 and installed version 8 live CD.
It will run EMC2 but the hardy hearon dosnt seam to work as well as Lucid lynx, Especialy the mouse, I tried adjusting the settings but it is still very bad to use.
So I tired installing version 10 on another pentium 3 computer, I have pretty much the same errors when I try and run EMC and there where a couple errors about memory when it was installing.
What do I have to do to make this stuff work? I have spent quite a bit of $ on Montec boards so I need to make this work somehow.
Thanks

A Pentium 3 is pretty old hardware you might consider a D510MO they are pretty cheap and known to work well with EMC. Otherwise you might try and find the 6.06 version of the LiveCD for your old computer.

Installed Lucid Lynx on a 3GHz celeron machine and it work perfect, It was my CAD/CAM PC but now it will have a different use.
Dropped in the PCI board and fired up the Montenc config and it started and worked fine, So now the learning curve really begins, I need to figure out the HAL config and how to tweek it. Any sugestions? I guess just read and start playing around with it.
Thanks
