You may build a similar machine using LCNC to control it all.
Older analog laser galvos may use the 7i77 for control or make of use of XY2-100 in Mesa hm2 on your Mesa FPGA board of choice. forum.linuxcnc.org/27-driver-boards/3985...ot2-firmware?start=0
The powder spreader and build platform are easily controlled via servo or stepper.
The inert gas valves and build chamber heater using GPIO.

Another Voron Legacy ( vorondesign.com ) being built, by now this has gotten out of hands, badly, since i have over 10 3D printers that rarely get used but i am still building others:
This is more "normal" state of mind stuff, parts for the new cnc plasma machines being built, i forgot when i started building these 3 ...

Printing stuff to print stuff:
I was not really happy with my printer when printing soft materials and when I needed to change or work on the hot end.
So I took the better designed Print head of the FLSUN Super Racer and printed a custom effector (will be milled out of Aluminium If I am happy with it) to get it in my qq printer. Then printed a mount of the Sherpa mini Extruder.
Bow I have to see if the old printer is strong and stiff enough for fast printing with this setup.

A foundry pattern for the travelling steady of my lathe. 3D printing makes it relatively easy to make a follow-board
