HI
To use the DM556 open loop I think you need an Ethercat controller,
I know the FR400, there are probably other devices, I don't know.
On the manufacturer's website you can download a working configuration for LinuxCNC.

I'm working on a retrofit on the electronics of a small old machining center

the FR400 drives MOONS' SR4plus and DMA860S steppers, with EasyIO as in/out,
the mini center has an ATC and several in/outs are needed, otherwise the FR400 is sufficient for a traditional CNC,
everything works perfectly.

Hi,thank you so much .as what you described,it looks that I still need hardware to support to use the open-loop stepper, such as a ethercat controller .I think you are right .Even if I bought the ethercat controller,I still dont know how to config the specific device. So,to the software part, would you share me a sample code or some resource link that I can used for make the open-loop stepper work? I'll appreciate that, many thanks again !

HI
sorry but the DM3E-556 communicates directly via EtherCAT with LCNC,
what I said applies to the DM556 which needs an EtherCAT controller to communicate with LCNC
I don't see DM3E-556 among the devices supported by LCNC,
you will need to build an .XML generic to make it work

HI
in the link you posted there is a reference to the Leadshine EM3E-556E model,
resembles DM3E-556

With an installation of LCNC, etherCAT and the cia402 component,
as fully described here by Rodw,
you can check if LCNC sees the DM3E-556 the same way

otherwise I think you have to work on the .XML file
here is the DM3E-556

Hi,in the terminal ,while I used "ethercat sl" command ,it did show up connected to DM3E-556 but while I used the control panel such as axis ,it can't control the stepper motor to rotate.I guess the problem may be due to .ini or hal and xml file ,but I dont know how to config it correctly .I looks that it 's much more complex to config the open-loop stepper motor comparing with the servo motor.do you have any workable .ini/.hal/.xml file of the open-loop stepper motor ?

in the terminal ,while I used "ethercat sl" command ,it did show up connected to DM3E-556 but while

Connected in "OP" mode or "SAFEOP"?
LCNC starts?
if it starts in halpin lcec.0. your device with connection pins, are they visible?
