I inadvertently updated to 12.04 LTS. This is a new install. I am completely new to LINUX. How do I fix this?

Can I just boot from the CD and start all over again?

In the circumstances, it is probably the easiest option.

You could stay with 12.04 and install different kernel, realtime and linuxcnc packages, but without any linux knowledge that is probably a recipe for disaster

So yes, start again, overwrite the partition and keep your mouse away from the dist upgrade button

Yes, though if you have a working machine config then you probably want to back-up the linuxcnc directory onto a USB drive first.

If you fancy the challenge of running LinuxCNC on a Ubuntu version that is only 2 years out of date, rather than 4...
