isolcpus idiot's guide? was created by Jonathan_H

isolcpus idiot's guide?

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

Hi,

I have LinuxCNC running on a Lenovo m710q with a Realtek NIC.

I regularly get an error saying the servo thread is probably too fast, but the thread is set to 1khz and this post suggests that the hardward I am running should be able to manage a stable 2kHz servo thread

forum.linuxcnc.org/18-computer/56231-get...h-pc-and-mesa#329327

I have gone into the BIOS and turned off all the features that you are told to turn off.

From that thread and a couple of others, it seems that perhaps the solution lies in Isolcpus, however I'm rather unclear as to what I need to set where. I gather that it is a configuration setting to remove a cpu core from the scheduler, but are then how do I get what I want to run on that core on there?

Is there an idiot's guide anywhere?

regards

Jonathan

Taking into consideration according to that person You consider an esteemed colleague and I called conceited, I'm too dumb to even know what operating system I'm working with... I've had enough of the elitist clique here... Thank each other all you like.
I think I'll take my chances and figure it out on my own. I didn't come here because I couldn't, I came here because (I thought) asking people who are more familiar with something than I am can save time.
My mistake.

In the end if I can't figure it out, I'll just deal with it until this job is done and I have time to gut this of Linux and install a complete FANUC oi-TB CNC unit I have. I'm also fairly certain I have everything I need to install this other Fagor unit I have access to.
Options are a plenty...

You can test the index-enable system by hand.

Open halshow (this is "show machine configuration" in Axis, in some other interfaces you may need to open a terminal and "halcmd loadusr halshow"

Add the x-index-enable signal to the Watch tab. I think you should see a button that allows you to set it.

Then rotate the motor by hand, and see if the index-enable signal ever goes false.

Hint, the colour scheme of halshow is eccentric. dark red = 0 / false and yellow = 1 / true

Are the stepper motors locked or free when they should move and don't?

There is a "quirk" in Stepconf that "Test axes" doesn't set the drive "enable" pins.
(Running the full system would, if the enables are configured)

Many stepper drivers have a "not-enable" input, which turns the drive off when high. (It's typically a waste of an IO pin with stepper motors)

If the motors are locked then the drives are enabled, and for some reason the step pulses are not being seen. If they are free then suspect the enable logic.

Questions about "Auto Zero" in QT_Dragon_HD probe tab.

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

Changes pushed to 2.9 won't be accessible unless the devs issue a point release. eg 2.9.5
You would probably be better off upgading to master 2.10 branch so you get changes as they happen.
QT dragon is a pretty new GUI and Chris has been beavering away improving it all the time..... :)

StepConf - tandem axe Y - comment configurer 2 moteurs synchrones

Raph

Ok but, when i'm done with the homing , the machine have a problem with the limits. It's convinced that it have the two meters going to the limit homing switch but after the homing it would have to do go to the others side for two meters. Maybe today i figure out how to do that.

Troubles to get started with SD240 Retrofit

Category: Turning

I checked the index signal with a physical oscilloscope (Hameg 303 in this case) and I can see the index signal "fly by"... it is very fast

Thank you Andy, I will follow your advice to try to observe both, index-enable signal and hm2_7i80.0.encoder.00.input-index pin in the HAL scope and see if the index-enable pin behaves as you describe it.

Thank you
Sigi
