would certainly be pretty sweet, PB does change fairly frequently since it isn't in the main linuxcnc repo. and i certainly struggle with good ways to a successful method to ensure users can easily update any required changes.

does this seem like something you might want to run with?if so let me know, you are welcome to join us in the qtpyvcp chat:

it is hugely helpful when we get folks who can help propel the project forward! A great group of folks and an awesome supportive culture! feel free to pop in!

In the end, the problem was in the switched analog signal and the GND of the analog signal. After swapping it works without a problem.

I checked OS version (see below). Is Debian 12 Bookworm.
Using Gdebi, installation fails because of python3-distro.
Synaptic search doesn't show python3-distro. Also not in the list of python3 files.
Have the zip file of python3-distro. Haven't been able to figure out how to install it.

g@debianNC:~/Downloads/python3distro/distro-master$ uname -a

Specified probe tool not in spindle error after upgrade

Category: QtPyVCP

For most of the Java applications I've written over the years I included sanity checks of the configuration that executed as early as possible during the startup process before something else had the possibility of crashing due to missing invalid or configuration.

Below is a snippet of code from the Java based DNS server I wrote long ago (unlogic.se/projects/eagledns).

Now given how good LinuxCNC and Probe Basic is working I haven't really had to roll up my sleeves and get to familiar with how the bootstrap/initialization of the user interfaces works. But I guess in the case of Probe Basic maybe a hook or method for checking the configuration could be added in QtPyVCP that each derived user interface could then implement and check the configurations before QtPyVCP  proceeds to load the actual GUI.

I'm using Debian 12 Bookworm and python3-distro is version 1.8.1-1

Are you using Gdebi to install Mesa CT?

In the Synaptic Package Manager I searched for python3-distro and it shows up.

Debian Bookworm.
Please refer to page 1 of this thread.
The python3-distro is not included in the python installation.

Now I understand... let me look into this.

Set rant box on.
I sure wish Debian would not use silly names for OS versions it's just too hard to remember which one is which... 10, 11, 12, 13 I understand and can remember and know that 13 comes after 12.
Set rant box off.

One more question......

On the stacked widget, designer seems to save the "current index" as the default, so if you happen to be editing a page and save it, running it from LinuxCNC will always start on that page. Is there any way to create a "default index"?

I have like 3 stacked widgets on top of each other so I have to make sure I set them all to the desired first page before I save it

Yup I just make sure that all tab widgets are set to the default page. You could add some Python code to set them.

gnipsel.com/linuxcnc/flexgui/python.html

The syntax would be something like this:

parent.stacked_widget_name.setCurrentIndex(0)

Adding support for different encoder protocols is possible.
The hardware supports lots of different feedback interfaces: freakontrol.github.io/stmbl/docs/pinouts...g---serial-protocols
And I'm looking at the moment at their Mitsubishi implementation, since I need multiturn for the robot. But there is no documentation of the protocol.

If you send me some details about the protocol and electrical parameters, I can look into it. But please open a separate topic or open a github issue, because I want to try to keep this topic as a instruction how to configure the drives.

Yeah I can add it as a github issue or something, I'd just have to send you the protocol docs directly. I'm not sure what their stance on publicly sharing the document is since I haven't seen them do that, I received it as a customer with an inquiry.

Unlogic post=318332 userid=35541I added the missing entries to the var file and it solved the issue.

Given that Probe Basic is under active development with frequent configuration changes this got me thinking.

Would it be possible to create a pyhon script that is executed early in startup process and checks if all required Probe Basic specific configuration options are present?

That would alert users to missing configuration options after upgrades and when making new installations.

hmmm, maybe, but I'm not sure how that would look exactly, do you have an idea on how to make it work?

Yeah that looks much nicer than the tabwidget when it's run....

The frames on the list and plain text editor aren't visible in the dark-touch theme. For now I'm just sticking them on frame widgets because they blend in with the background otherwise.

I'll look into the dark-touch theme to see what I need to fix that.

When AC is rectified to DC, the no-load DC voltage is equal to the AC input voltage times the square root of 2.

120V AC RMS rectifies to about 170VDC.

Even though many stepper drives can accept AC power, they likely rectify it into DC power internally; if the rectifier in the driver is poor, performance will be sub-optimal.

If you build your own high-quality rectifier, you can be certain that it will function well.
