You need "halcmd" before the HAL commands.
Close LinuxCNC, then re-start it with the "linuxcnc" command from the terminal. We should be able to see what the error is.

Obviously postgui.hal is not loaded at start.

Well, that is certainly interesting...
And I think is 100% explained by the fact that your POSTGUI_HAL_FILE entry is in the [DISPLAY} section and not in the [HAL] section where it belongs.
I think moving that line will fix the problem. Sorry that it took so long to spot that.

At least the file is being called now, that's progress.
Do you have it as a HALFILE or a POSTGUI_HALFILE ?

POSTGUI_HALFILE solved this problem.
Thank you very much for helping me out here.
Next problem in line is that I need to get M3 to run spindle CCW as in a normal lathe with front tooling.
Or just leave it as is and try to fix all upcoming posted G-code with M4 even if that feels very backwards for me
as I am used to M3.
Any suggestions on how to solve this?

Can you post your current spindle.hal file? I think we probably just need to invert one of the pins.
