Manual, MDI, and Auto mode external buttons and indicator lights

I am working on a control panel with buttons and associated indicator LEDs. I would like to use three of these for switching between manual, MDI, and Automatic mode. is there a pin for the machine mode that I could use to drive an indicator light? Is there a "standard" way to control the mode via external inputs?
