Ver 2.7 to Ver 2.9 was created by rider-83
I've upgrade to LinuxCNC 2.9 ( & Buster)
I noticed the gmoccapy script is completly differant between version for LinuxCNC 2.7 & 2.9

My 2.7 version of gmoccapy had some alterations which I had implemented, but won't work with the newer version with out studying the new code.
Can I simply copy and use my original file from version 2.7 or does it have to be the newer file?

That depends on your config. I.E. The spindle names has changed, as 2.9 does support multiple spindles, some gmoccapy pin names may have changed, etc.

So you need to check from a terminal for error outputs and correct them.

If you piblish your config folder, we may be able to assist.

But why did you update to 2.9 and not to 2.8?
2.9 is an development branch, it might have undesired bugs.

I require the use of the G71 cycle, I posted a question on the forum as to what would be my best and simplest way to achieve this. It was recommended by another forum user that 2.9 would be my best option.
Its turning out to be a pain in the ass as I had the system up and running fine. Just with out G71 :(

Do you think I should back step to 2.8 to make things simpler for myself?

As mentioned,
2.8 is the actual stable releas
2.9 is the development branch, so bugs are not unusual

New features will be only included in the development branch, 2.8 receives only bug fixes to be stable all time

If you need G71 check if it is also in 2.8, I do not know that, as I use my own cycles for my lathe, I have never played with that.

I am using 2.8 on my machines and 2.9 on my development computer and all my machines have a simulated clone on that computer.

It isn't.

tbh I think that 2.8 and 2.9 are very similar as far as core code goes, the main difference is in Python versions supported (As I understan it)
