What program do you recommend that works?

Or a pre-designed package that you have already used and works that you can share with me.

What are you saying here ? I don't quite get what you are hinting at.

Usual process is:
You download the ISO.
You write the ISO to a usb stick. The image must be written to the device, not a partition. Under windows win32diskimager works all the time under normal circumstances. Under Linux & MacOS dd works well, tho you have to be careful.
Your OS may not recognise the format of the disk after this.
Boot with the USB sitck.
Then install onto your system.

If you think the images are damaged the best thing is to check the md5sum.
Also a description on your computer hardware will help. Either the model & brand of the computer or the exact model of motherboard.

In the first post you recommend the official Linuxcnc Debian Buster.iso image. Disadvantages: during installation
from USB, you need to remove the USB flash drive and insert it into another usb port. XCFE environment does not allow installing GIMP. Gdebi doesn't work ... When adding Mate environment it works better. No built-in designer with widgets.

Never had to do that, it works properly on at least 5 of my computers/laptops.

hottabich wrote: XCFE environment does not allow installing GIMP.

It does, have it on 2 PC's, simple "sudo apt-get install gimp" worked.

hottabich wrote: Gdebi doesn't work ...

It does work, it is used to install stuff in this tutorial.

hottabich wrote: When adding Mate environment it works better.

Yes it does, i use Mate exclusively on my PC's/laptops.

hottabich wrote: No built-in designer with widgets.

No, they are not included, this is a non-free version of Official Debian Buster with LinuxCNC added, nothing more and nothing less.

Official LinuxCNC Debian Buster is not "non free", it is the free version.
The difference is the non-free version has proprietary drivers that might be needed for some WiFi hardware.
BTW, it says to install official release at the top of the first post.

I think you could change the link to cdimage.debian.org/images/unofficial/non.../current-live/amd64/ and it would always be current. If not then 10.8 is the current version.

Which desktop environment would you recommend for LinuxCNC? Any differences?
