3mm steel is way over kill and heavy!

2 not at all, at 3.7 euro/kg and 3.9kg/m anything but cheap!
But in the machine cost, that is quite a small price for the gantry and all the moving parts.
Since this situation is causing a lot of trouble getting anything done, i do have 80X80mm metal profile outside rusting at 6m length, so i might just use that. I would not like it.

I did not dare to push it further out of fear it would fly away !
That is 1 meter distance it is passing in just a smidge above 1 second!
Acceleration is set at 1500mm/s/s, and this is possible using Mesa 7i92, Lam Technologies drives, an old beat up Lenovo laptop, and Sanyo-Denki 1.8A motors.

Tom.

A failed attempt at doing just that, at such high acceleration it just throws me off on direction changes.

I have no words to describe how good they are, but pricey !!!
mechapro.de had a discount on those two models last time i ordered 7 of them.
www.mechapro.de/shop/Schrittmotor-Steuer...ehaeuse:::22_49.html
Still the lowest price i could find.

So the sensors are wired and working, done it's first homing and squaring.... about 200 times !
While i was setting it up it was painfully slow, but after sorting it i raised the speeds, a lot! Makes for a fun thing to watch when 20cm from home, it's like "zip" done.
And just in case you order those, please be sure to order the programmer for them, it's 28 Euro, or you will be stuck at 1A and 2A respectively and at /4 microstepping. Been there done that ! First time i ordered them from an Italian website they never mentioned or suggested i might need that, i was stuck at default for nearly 5 months.

These are power supplies, bottom thingies, 3 of them, 400W each at 24V, wired in series for 72V to the big drives and 48 for the smal one. 1.2KW of power, add two more and i could use them for plasma cutting at 16.7A !!!rodw wrote: Awesome tommy. Can you share the lam technologies part numbers? I see 2 different sized boxes. Is one of them a power supply? What voltage are you using for the steppers.?

I was kinda thinking 4 NEMA 23's at around 260 oz/in 3 amps (say Lams M1233051), DS1076 drivers, 70-80 volts with 5:1 reduction drives on a rack and pinion drives should smash a light (say 30kg) gantry
And probably also do the same with a DS1044 on a 48 v SMPS
What do you think?
Or should I use a Toroidal and Lam's power supply modules?
