you can get gparted live-cd from here
gparted.org/download.php

your root paritiion is
/dev/sda3 14986712 9256652 4945680 66% /
i take it you re-installed already?

if do before you do anything, try running gparted again and make sure you select /dev/sda3 to extend it.

if not try the live-cd and burn it to a cd, then boot from it and try to extend your /dev/sda3 that way.

oh, the du command is du <space> -s and since your operator
the commadn would be
sudo du -s /

to help out before you edit another file you might want to open s terminal and
sudo su -
to get a root session, keep it open. if you run out of space that session should remain working

you can troubleshoot from it

I tried Gpart again and THIS time it came up as a command line function. Last time it had a GUI function. No plans to play with a Com Line function.

Any idea on how to bring it up as a GUI ?? I used sudo gpart

Gpart is a command line tool (for recovering damaged disk partitions), Gparted is a gui (Gnome) partitioning tool.

OK good news (;-) for a change. What ever teh updates did the partition grew from using 32gb to using all available space on teh drive. .

We are now good to go.
