The wifi latency is to expected based on my own experience and also what was reported by PCW back when I set my machine up a few years ago. Just pop a USB wifi dongle in. I used the Asus Nano which I had already and it just worked.

I installed Linux Mint and compiled the PREMPT_RT kernel (17.3 I think).

I never had issues with booting and when I added a touch screen, it just came up with no input from me.

@rodw Would you mind putting the contents of your /boot/grub/grub.conf here so I can see it. I'm wondering if it has NOMODESET or if its using something else to over come the issue I'm having.

I'll try and remember. It might be a while as the machine is at work and I'm off for Christmas.

I also ended up getting this mini PC GB-BXBT-1900 (MZBAYAB-00). As a starting point I looked into this post for BIOS settings. I also removed WiFi card from the PC. Did all the tests without network connection.

Running on stock linuxcnc-stretch-uspace-amd64.iso from 2018-10-27 17:57

Here is my BIOS dump:
BIOS Version: F9
CPU SMART FAN Function: Enabled
CPU FAN Fail Detect: Disabled
Wake system from S5: Disabled
Intel Virtualization: Disabled
EIST: Disabled
CPU C state Report: Disabled
SATA Mode: AHCI Mode
CSM Support: Enabled
LAN PXE OpROM: Disabled
DVMT Pre-Allocated: 64M
Onboard Audio: Enabled
Onboard LAN: Enabled
XHCI Hand Off: Enabled
OS Selection: Windows 7
ERP Support: Enabled
Restore AC Power Loss: Power On
Secure Boot: Disabled
Secure Boot Mode: Standard

With 6x glxgears and with various apps running

do your testing without the base thread as with Mesa ethernet hardware (which I assume you are using) you do not need a base thread.

210028 is still OK for Mesa Ethernet. Mine is around 120000
