The tool number -1 has norhing to do with QtPyVCP or metric/imperial, it is most probably caused by power off of the PC and the resulting corruption in the files. That was my case.
Loop the tool change, change a tool, then revert back, that fixed it for me.

Make sure you have a custom_config.yml with column definitions in your machine dir, e.g.:

data_plugins:
  tooltable:
    provider: qtpyvcp.plugins.tool_table:ToolTable
    kwargs:
        columns: TPZDR

After this the table gets stored with pocket values and qtpyvcp works fine.
