Interesting, I wonder if they contribute anything back to the community.

Mind you there is a fair number of companies and individuals (even some that frequently ask for help on this forum) that make a living using LinuxCNC without giving anything back to the community. Just recently I came across a company in the US that sells Linuxcnc 2.6 (!) installed on a mediocre PC for 1200$.

Yes and Tormach did actually contribute to the Linuxcnc source code some years ago.

Tormach's PathPilot CNC controller software is built on top of LinuxCNC.

Tormach also used Mesa boards for everything, they still do but i think they started making copies of them in some china factory, has to be confirmed though.

A big china company that manufactures automation stuff like robotic paletizers use modified LinuxCNC with a simple GUI for a small touchscreen. I dived into the inner workings and sure there where the hal and the ini and examples, all from probably 5-7 years ago. Had very limited time so could not get more info.

And there's this one:

www.apsx.com/apsx-nano-cnc-swiss-lathe

Nowhere do they explicitly mention LCNC.  It runs on "ASPX CNC software."

And yet...

All the g-codes, M-codes, etc. are identical.  Post processor is minor edit of the LCNC post.

Not sus at all.

From their PDF:
To set the speed of the spindle 0 to 1000 RPM, use M3 S1000 $0 (CW 1000RPM
for the main spindle) and to turn it off use M5 $0.
To set the speed of the spindle 1 to 10000 RPM, use M3 S10000 $1 (CW only) and
to turn it off use M5 $1.

And lower on that document, at the "plot tab" is Gremlin (the LinuxCNC visualization screen, not the small monsters from the movie :) )
Last page, board with parallel port, oh yes! :)
Still the price is not astronomical.
