did you recently update? if so did you update all of the config files required for the latest version? if not as per the status page dics you may be missing some var file parameters that are not being stored persistently this could cause some issues.
when the probing stops what is the reason given in the status page?

Thanks for the reply. I updated about a month ago.
So the behaviour is. No matter what i change the probe will only search down 0.5mm
Then I get a message saying G38.2 move finished without making contact.
Thanks Chris

Just fresh installed PB and probing works like a charm. Check probe behavior in halshow?

I have just copied over the latest probe_basic.var file from github and same results.
I have tested my probe in hal and I have two entries. Probe in and probe input. Only probe input is turning yellow when triggered.

did you update all of the config files? that is why i wanted to see your var file. if it was out dated it means all the subroutines are also outdated which would be a possible contribution to your issue.
once you have verified all of your config files have been correctly updated for the latest probe basic release requirements, if you still are getting the error then come back and we will have a further look at it. in the interim it is always best to run a comparison on config folders when you do an update. in many cases if there are substantial changes to probe basic that include configuration changes such as subroutine file edit and or adds/deletions, if you do not have those things will not work as expected. a quick test is to try probing in the sim, if it does not fail in 0.5mm, then you know its a config issue.
