Thank you. I've also (I think) resolved my problem by refreshing my .ini and .hal files from the repo. I had gotten them totally out of whack without understanding what I was doing. I can now run jobs to completion without the following errors.

BTW this is LInuxCNC 2.9.8 running on a miniPC with Debian "trixie" -> W5500-EVB-PICO board -> Arduino CNC shield with TMC2209 driver modules.

Howdy,

I'm struggling to understand the configuration mapping window in the PnCConf Wizard.

I have flashed the 6i25 with the 5i25_g540x2.bit firmware and reloaded the firmware to make sure the new firmware is loaded.

Based of the manual for the 6i25 card, it looks like P3 is the tab to use to configure what each of the pins on the DB25 connector on the back of the machine does.

Based off this post , it looks like the "num" column in the P3 window is to be interpreted as a GPIO pin number if the number has two leading digits and a function or module number if the number has no leading digits.

I ran "sudo mesaflash --device 5i25 --readhmid" and got following output for P3:

So far so good... Only when I look at the P3 tab in PnCConf, not all the I/O numbers from the output from the "sudo mesaflash --device 5i25 --readhmid" are listed (please see attached screenshot). Without all the I/O numbers listed, I don't understand how to properly set which functions should be selected for which pins.

Can I ask for some help please on how to properly use the PnCConf wizard in LinuxCNC to map my axis and spindle to the proper pins for the G540?

Regards,
John

Tool compensation (G43 and G41/42) has no effect on the joints. It is applied to the coordinates of the tool's center point in the Cartesian coordinate system of the “Axis”.

It's not entirely clear what you're trying to achieve. need more information about your kinematics and the type of machine (mill/lathe)...

For G43 (Tool Length Compensation), you can apply corrections individually to each axis (XYZABCUVW, but not to the joint) - these are tool length/offset corrections for milling machines and diameter corrections for lathes.

G41/42 - Cutter Radius Compensation, D in the tooltable - cannot be applied individually to axes (these are tool diameter offsets for milling, or insert tip radius сompensation for turning).

Each tool number has its own compensation table; you can also use a compensation number that differs from the tool number. If you have two tools, a roughing tool and a finishing tool, you should use different compensation numbers for each of them.

OK, disconnected the 7i77 from the 6i25. ran mesaflash, linux couldn't find the board.

Am I needing a new 6i25? I ordered this AM on the hunch I probably would...

In other news, if I launch linuxCNC with the 7i77 removed from the 6i25, my PC doesnt hard crash anymore, just gives the following error:

I have the report from that if it means anything.
All of the above was done on a new (different) PCIe slot...so the slot being a problem should be removed as a potential issue

will provide tomorrow when I am back at the machine.

lspci did find the card but mesaflash does not, that may indicate a bad 6I25

There are no LEDs illuminated on a 6I25 in normal use except very briefly at power on.

and some more cross-generation mating... the MDS-E-V2 drive (2024) happily talking to the MDS-A-CR (1995) power supply without any persuation...

X2 goes to the FPGA, for whatever expansion i may need. 4 diff pairs + ~40 single ended lines. for now i have a mezzanine board for old MR-S servos and another for interfacing meldas 6 base board...
yes, a combo... SV2 has 9 bidirectional RS-422/485 pairs. can be directly plugged MR-J/J2/J2S-B or MDS-A/B/C1/R-V/SP drives. or generate step/dir pulses. or read abz/serial encoders. whatever...

Hi,
I have this strange problem since today. Everything was working fine when I was last using the machine.

today I noticed that G2 and G3 for full circles gives me holes elongated in X.
I was trying to do 25mm in diameter hole and it ended up being 25 along Y and 26 along X.

When I was using the machine before (approx 2 weeks ago) I was using the same program and result was circular.

I was looking for some mechanical cause, like something getting loos, but found nothing.
I checked the same program on two very different feedrates 2400 and 300 to check for any inertia driven causes.
I checked backlash on X, and it came back normal, around 0,02.

I am puzzled.

Any suggestions?

Cris.

Awesome. I figure by the time you have a good stable software, I might have a Y axis to hook up. I have to get the wire wheel into the column of the Z axis today and un-rustify it, so I can add in the new stiffeners and get it ready for heat treatment.

(I did kinda start this mess in 2020, and it's now 2026...)

EDIT: What's the X2 connector on the back side of the board for? And is this ethernet card a combo copper/fibre interface? Just looking at what the latching connector at the bottom of the top side, and that it looks like CN1 on some of the MR-J2 drives.

Thanks for the reply, but im still too dumb to integrate just these files. It just won't work. Can anyone guide me through this? What doch i have to do with these files? All i have done so far is to create a sample from the Premiere Samples and put the 3 files into the folder. Should i even call the Basic.hal from the axis.ini file? What am i doing wrong?

I'm an old retired engineer with limited LinuxCNC understanding trying to get @scottalford75 's Remora RP2040-W5500 project working.— and am now getting immediate joint 0 following error on first move (command ~125) after successful runs, low spike filters, W5500-EVB-Pico.

With Grok's help, I had this working reliably a couple of days ago... running full logo G-code and longer files to completion without errors. This was probably with unrealistic relaxed settings, however... just trying to get it running in the Axis visualizer.

After some tuning attempts and reflashes, it now fails immediately on the first G0 move with "joint 0 following error" at command 125, even with:
- SCALE = 38.5 (X/Y), 200 (Z) — proven on Grbl/FluidNC
- Acceleration set to 0 in [TRAJ]
- FERROR = 15+, MIN_FERROR = 1.5
- G61 exact path mode
- Clean reboot, minimal background, performance governor
- remora.status = TRUE, spike filters very low (~500-700), read.time stable

Tried:
- Full flash_nuke + both available .uf2 files from repo
- Re-upload config every time
- Power cycle Pico 60+ seconds

Halshow shows stable polling, no high spike filters, but pos-fb lags immediately on first move.

I've attached my .ini, .hal, and config.txt files.

Thanks for any help you can give me.
