Sorry, pasted the image, and it looked good, but apparently it ended up referencing a discord image. Here it is.

Hello folks, this is my first post!

I've currently got a mach 3 based 3 axis CNC, and i'm building another one (which for these purposes can be thought of as a printNC in terms of design, dual drive for the main axis, single for the rest) for which I plan was reuse the control box, based on open loop steppers, to get it going and then migrate to linuxCNC. I still got some months ahead of me on that build and time to change my mind and do something about the controller sooner. I've no experience configuring linuxCNC but i'm a developer doing stuff i've never done is basically what we do.

I'd like to go all the way to the other end of the spectrum with ethercat servos. Thesem plus a small ethercat IO module would allow me to skip mesa cards. Given that premise, what do you guys think of these servos? (Try to ignore the fact that i'd have to pay more in shipping and taxes for them than the hardware is worth. That is just the reality for me living in AR and would apply to all alternatives similarly)

Now, i KNOW i'm not buying leadshine or get 1 click tuning. I'm not asking if it'll be easy to get it going, I know it won't be trivial. I want to know if there's enough to read that i could get them working, and when i do, will i be happy with how they perform. Now, I've looked around and there are definitely people using these servos, asking questions, and other people responding to them, but they never seem to post some nice shiny video of they machine working in the end which is what worries me.

if there's anything regarding my build that'll affect the response let me know and i'll add it. Thanks a bunch!

Well that was easy.

This is really, really nice for the computer Luddites.

Thank you JT!

Hi Axemas
,
Thank you very much—after making the changes, it worked
immediately. A huge thank you!
I agree with what Surmetall wrote; a feature like that would be very helpful.
However, regarding some minor tweaks—which I hope are simple for you to fix—setting the width of the NC tab—
“Master treeview minimal width” in Preferences
doesn’t work. This results in a lot of screen space for parameters and a very small project display area, but as I mentioned, this is just a cosmetic issue.
Thanks again, and I hope the community of Nativecam enthusiasts—of which I am one—will grow significantly.

It does make some sense to me that the commanded position would stay ahead by some bit so that it doesn't instantly get massive following error, but am not sure at this point. It comes from joint.n.motor-pos-cmd. I've attached the config files here

Furthermore, while on Debian 12 and Debian Trixie the Grub command line has been optimized, with isolcpu, c state, etc., in Debian 10 there are no optimizations. Obviously I tried to remove the optimizations on Debian 12 and Trixie, as well as on Debian 10, but the problem persists, only on Debian 12 and Trixie.

I'm currently working on an upgrade project for an Emco Turn 55-II lathe located at a local school.
I’m looking for the wiring manual or electrical schematics for this machine. I’m not entirely sure which of the two versions it is, so if anyone happens to have documentation for either (or both), it would be a huge help so I can compare them and move forward with the project.
Any help or guidance on where to find these would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance.
Please excuse any mistakes in my English, as I am using a translator to write this

I have a resistive touchscreen and this works quite well.

Good morning everyone. After several tests I had to leave the machine to the customer with Debian 10. Believe me, I tried everything. It seemed to work with the refClockSyncCycles setting to 1, but sometimes the motors, when the PC was started for the first time, made noise. Turning it off and on again is fine and when it works well, it works well for a long time. I even tried Debian 12, the Git ISO and ethercat 1.6.3, but even worse than Trixie. I put back the Debian 10 HD and ethercat 1.5.2 and it still works fine, even if at first glance, in addition to the fact that with Debian 10, the drive values are read instantly when the PC starts, while with Debian 12 and Trixie, you have to wait a few seconds. And in my opinion, everything starts from this problem. I set latency-histogram --nobase --sbins 1000 --show, stressed the PC, with gear, opening the browser (not connected), moved windows, opened librecad etc., but Debian 10 has maximum and minimum latency half of Debian 12 and Trixie, same PC. I think the problem is between the RT kernel and the Ethercat version. For example, I tested the Debian 10 pins with Ethercat 1.5.2. The pll-error value oscillates between -2200 and 1600. The pll-out pin has a fixed value of 1000 or -1000. Why don't we try installing Ethercat 1.5.2 on Trixie, so as to understand if the problem is on the kernel or Ethercat side. I think that on the Icec side, there is little to do. Yes, we're certainly trying to optimize, but the main problem is latency and jitter stability. I remain available. Luca, I wrote to you privately, but you haven't responded.

Hey, folks here literally saved my ass from a disaster so I'm passing it on.

I have a 7.5hp old Columbo spindle that I know little about besides:
(a) Resistance is 1.8ohm consistent across all 3 windings.
(b) Its from 1994ish, and serviced in 2004.
(c) Manual change, and the mechanism to hold the spindle works.
(d) CAT40, insides look good, threads look good.
(e) 18000rpm (I think)
(f) About 80 freedom weight units (says so on the maintenance invoice from 2004).

Free.

You pay shipping. Its located in southern New Hampshire in Freedomland.
I will post runout or vibration numbers once I get set up to measure everything.
Do request any info you need, and I'll update it here as I measure stuff.

I'm trying to set up linuxcnc on an old motion master bridge. Reusing the brushed servos and 4 amp. drives. Adding 4 pulse train Yaskawa servos/drives (this is the upgrade) to swivel head and rotaries. I'd very much appreciate someone willing to take a few calls and guide me along so I can get help or quick opinions when in a pinch. I've so far managed to covert a 480V machine to 220V.

Something I'd love is a 7i77u board (just borrow it for a few weeks if you have one to spare). I just don't know enough to understand if I can use 7i77 boards that are immediately available. That's my immediate next step.

They are out of stock and I'm hard up for time. Wife gave me permission to start a project with a machine that is the size of a room, and then, a few weeks later, tells me the whole family is moving to a place that not much bigger than the room the machine is filling up. FML.

Make stuff and prosper.

Oh, I had forgotten about that. I will try if that works. Thanks for the idea.
