I'd thought I'd add samba and windows can be a PITA to setup.
As the underlying OS is Debian bookworm, any guides or how-tos that cover installing samba on Debian will be far far better than asking here.
I would also install gvfs-backends and gvfs-fuse as well. Samba-vfs-modules might be an idea as well.

You only need the Ethercat repos if you are going to use Ethercat .

Thank you for the link.

I set up the software limits and homes. I assumed the hardware limits wouldn’t be necessary to get it running.

What I don’t understand at this point is how I get the gantry, which is currently at the midway point of the machine, 24” from the desired home location, jogged to the home location, in this software, so I *can* home it. I don’t see how wiring in the physical switches allows me to do that.

Hopefully the docs will get me there. Thanks.

Thanks. I’ll order the switches.

Having a blast is not my goal here. I need a working tool.

To be clear, when I set up the limit switches the software will treat the two Y motors as one? Currently they are being treated as separate axes, which makes it impossible to move the gantry to a home position.

Yes this is my goal, everything on a same board.
IC-NV part is not easy but one from PEdpex is working so I should use the same.
There is not much chip that can do this as good as IC-NV so I might stick to this one.
And STM32F4 works good for encoders so it should be a good match.
I will try to start from your E7000 then thank you

I want to install samba, but apt install samba gives "Package 'samba' has no installation candidate", I did apt update but it didn't help. I checked repositories and there is only linuxcnc.org. Should I have also Debian repositories or not? How to install samba?

Also do I need: " download.opensuse.org/repositories/science:/EtherLab/Debian_12/ "? What is it for? It gives an error on apt update:
"Get:1 download.opensuse.org/repositories/science:/EtherLab/Debian_12 ./ InRelease [1,575 B]

I found Pedpex's work, awesome.
Maybe that is what you have in mind, but I would put his circuitry on the same board as ethercat
to have it neatly packaged.
One thought I got is if one can skip the quadrature part in some way. Are there sin cos chips
that can deliver a value over spi or i2c for example?
The built-in quadrature encoder in stm32f4 can read with at least 3 MHz so maybe not a big problem.
I have code to extend numbers over the 16-bit and 32-bit boundary.
Code for encoder counting is in E3000 project.
Best to base HW on E7000 project, clear out pins and I2C and add encoder inputs.

IC-NV are here for the conversion, not easy to setup but Pedpex, a member from the forum did the stuff.
My goal is to merge his project to yours basically.

I will prepare all the work environment and when the schematic will be done or almost I will open a thread. Maybe i should start with a prototype PCB from you as I already get a pcb from pedpex and when everything is running, I do the merge

Here is a screenshot from the Latency Test of the old configuration. Only for the Kernel-Infos.
The latency was horrible at this time (without irq-optimisation at this time)

I don't know much about cos sin. The whole processor is available for you to do all sorts of processing.
The ethercat part is the easy one I would say.
Every cycle you calculate a new encoder value, set a pdo variable and the soes library does the rest.

Edit. But I checked quickly. So you need to take in two analogue signals and calculate the phase angle.
Absolutely doable, could be a nice application.
Start a project thread and I'll give you a hand with the ethercat stuff.

Edit 2. The ADCs on STM32F4 are only 12-bit, you may need 16-bit ADC for this. Another processor?
External 16-bit ADC unit?

Edit 3. IC-NV instead of ADCs of course.

Hi,

I also did a fresh installation on a DELL Optiplex 3060 Micro PC (RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller)
Everything incl. IRQ-Optimizing (Latency) works fine, but i also run into this error "Error finishing read" with my MESA 7i96s.
Code:
--- 10.10.10.10 ping statistics --- 46085 packets transmitted, 46085 received, 0% packet loss, time 46101ms rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 0.050/0.062/[color=#e74c3c]3.014[/color]/0.039 ms

In my old installation (at this PC) i run the 3.6.0 rt11 Kernel and did not have this problems, so i think, last time i updated it for the same reason. Sadly i don`t know how to do this update again.
Is there an easy way only updating the kernel?
(Sorry but I`m not in the Linux-Space, so its a little hard for me)

Thanks a lot
Jens
