just FYI, I moved this configuration off the RPI-4 onto a new computer (fresh installation from the released ISO) and still get the same. Figures I would be the only one to have this "issue". Am I the only one using QtDragon? cant be, as it is a very cool GUI.

Is your DM542 input pin connected like this?

Good day Sir

I have done "no edits to any files" dont know how to do that. and would not modify anything while trouble shooting a setup.

the 2 lines of code do nothing but take me back to the prompt.

in lookin at how to connect linuxcnc to outputs to the motors i see it utilizes the
printer port which i do not have on this laptop and that means i prob. would have to use the rj45 which i dont know if i have the mind power to do that. i have to look at that closer.
But would still like to solve the login thing so i don't have to do the ctrl alt f3 and then the startx thing in just lookin at the running program. which may not be a big thing at this point.
tks
Ken

That seems likely since there must be 1000's of LinuxCNC installations using
shared home/limits and this is the first time I've seen this complaint.

thanx, but I already had a working solution to my "problem" so didnt actually need your help by that time. I guess i am obviously an idiot because i didn't fall all over myself thanking you, and using your solution rather than the one i worked hard at figuring out while not knowing anything about HAL or Linuxcnc.

Hallo,
wenn man LCNC startet kommt eine Auswahl von Maschinenkonfigurationen? Da ist nur die 7I96s, aber ich habe die 7I96 in
pncconf gefunden.

Sometimes it can be an advantage to be a bit lazy
Otherwise, I wouldn’t have been able to reproduce it.
At first, I had the driver connected directly to the TangNano9k (3.3V),
then I had a quick Google to see if anyone else was having problems with the DM542. Yes, they were, because of the 3.3V. Now I’ve connected it to the Tangoboard with 5V signals and everything’s working perfectly, with the default settings

Wow, OK, I can picture it – that’s intense
Even at low speed – wtf

I was wondering if I should buy direclty the 7i95T as it has all needed i/o and encoder feedbacks for up to 6 axis.
What you suggest ?

Yes, that would be better, but finding it sometimes not easy,
With Mesa, you can add inputs and outputs and PWM and encoder feedback as you see fit:
-more IO = 7i84 or 7i70 or 7i71 or 7i72
-more encoders = 7i85 or 7i85S (not the same, only half the same)
-more PWm for +-10V servos = 7i83

Many thanks, will take a closer look to those.

Ok, I was just thinking that buying it once for the complete machine would be easier and more clean instead of adding the various boards per needs. Also because time sometimes makes obsolete something and its difficult to
find later.

Note that if you do fall back to ethercat, with beckhoff, you just need to add an extra input or output module at any time as required at a cost of about $50 for another 8 ports.

In fact the initial idea of going with EtherCAT was exactly to prevent not having the possibility to add later
some functionalities. To me seems that more and more industrial stuff is going EtherCAT direction.

Don't forget LinuxCNC can handle about 8 spindles so the drill could get a free ride on another Z axis stage if you are creative.

ok thanks for that info. I will have to struggle a lot with it, I know

Does your table have downdraft zones?

What you exactly mean by "downdraft zones" ? I have not yet build the table where the workpiece will sit on.
But the gantry is already existing and here are some pictures of when I received it. brastrak.com.br/files/cnc/

Hi everyone! Follow-up to my earlier post — kept working on the profiler with Claude (AI) and testing on my real lathe (LinuxCNC 2.9.8, Mesa 7I96S). Found more real issues since last time, including a couple more crash risks, plus added several new features. What was fixed:

• G72's D/I/R were also wrongly scaled for G7 — same class of bug as the D/I swap from before, but G72 works along Z, where no diameter/radius conversion should apply at all
• Retract (R) in G71 was missing the same G7 scaling fix that D/I already got
• diagonal rapid moves could happen between multiple finishing/spring passes — now explicit, safe L-shaped repositioning between every G70 call
• a profile point sitting exactly on the centerline (X=0) could hang LinuxCNC before any motion even starts — now caught with a clear error instead

New features:

• tool nose radius compensation (G41/G42) support, including multiple finishing passes under compensation
• separate "spring passes" (repeat the final cut N times with no material removal) as its own stage
• finish allowance entered per pass (e.g. 0.25mm × 2 passes), with the total shown live
• ΔZ (enter coordinates relative to the previous point) and ⌀X (enter the desired diameter at an arc's peak instead of the radius)
• Half/Mirror preview mode
• full project import/export (.txt with all machine parameters, not just coordinates), with auto-detection on import
• Coolant/Tool comp/Cycle as dropdowns instead of text/checkboxes
• generate-then-save workflow (Save/Send stay disabled until you click Generate)
• better fill rendering in preview (incl. ID bores, and stock length the profile doesn't reach)

File and detailed changelog (CHANGES.txt) attached. As always — I'm not a programmer, so please double-check everything on your own machine before trusting it blindly.

I can't help you.
I gave you working example.
You only have to remove from your config unnecessary stuff and replace parport pin by mesa pin.
But you see only that is one line not many...
