I have the right hob for making T5 timing pulleys, so can do it this way:

In my case the pulley have a chamfered end that prevents the belt extrusion. That would be impossible to make (in one part) with the hub due to its radius. The orange is the teeth and they go up to the chamfer.

And by the way, removing the rod from the lathe, putting it on the mill will always go a bit of center.
Making all in one tight provides the best result.
