Starting back on the 5-axis CNC CMYK+W airbrush.

Inkjets have a limited reach of only a few mm. The airbrush will be able to reach (with limited resolution) where an inkjet can not.

If you look closely at the T-slot the inkjet can't reach into the slots.
It works very similar to the multi-axis inkjets

So what kind of software tool would you use to create the gcode for the separate colours?

You can separate each color into its own paths using GIMP then convert each color to gcode.

why dont you use a Robot to paint in full dimation
with the 5Axis mashine you are limited to the mashine size and part position
the robot workes on walls and fixed parts

Interesting.
So in order to mix individual color hues you would have to transform the z-value to the feed rate? Or would you vary the airflow?

You might be able to roughly approximate a colour printer with 4 airbrushes and CMYK translucent inks with some kind of calibration for airbrush to dwell time or feedrate to apply varying quantities of ink. In fact if you got continuous inking system inks for inkjet printers you'd nearly be there!

@ rodw The continuous inkjet (CIJ) heads tend to be rather large compared to airbrush. i use them in other applications. The CIJ drop volume doesn't vary. Airbrush is more complex and more versatile for some applications since you can vary the spray area over a very wide range >100:1.
@ bbsr_5a I can. I've been doing so with inkjets for years.
@ Aciera You can vary the spray pattern and volume of an airbrush. Think of it like a conical cutting tool only mounted backwards with the point facing the spindle..
