Hello Guys,
I am within days of putting power back to a VMC that I just got done stripping the old control and wiring in a new Mesa setup, 7i80-7i52-7i49-7i70-7i71-7i73,
Does anyone have any recent builds using this, that they wouldn't mind sharing there files, I haven't built a 7i80 before, so I am not sure exactly what the base info in the HAL file needs to be to get the 7i80 loaded and running.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks
Rick

The only necessary hal/ini file difference is that you must specify the IP address of the Ethernet FPGA card
this is done when the hm2-eth driver is loaded, for example:
Note that the firmware is not specified. Like most of Mesa's newer FPGA cards,
the desired firmware is loaded to on-card flash memory once, rather than being loaded
every time linuxcnc starts
There is more system setup information for hm2_eth in its man page:
man hm2_eth
(and of course if you have an existing hal/ini file set you are modifying, you need to change the card name everywhere it occurs)
this is done when the hm2-eth driver is loaded, for example:
loadrt hostmot2
loadrt hm2_eth board_ip="10.10.10.10" config="num_encoders=1 num_stepgens=5 sserial_port_0=20xxxxxx"

Is a 7I80-16 config for a 7I49 on P1 and a 7I52 on P3 so
6 resolver channels and 6 analog outs on 7I49,
6 encoder channels and 6 RS-422 SSerial expansion channels on 7I52
you use the mesaflash utility to update the 7I80 firmware

Hope fully when we get back from the holiday monday, I will power it up and start hacking away on the files.
Good looking out for me,
I figured it wasn't going to be straight forward with the firmware.
Thanks Peter,
Rick

Hello PCW,
Is this firmware part of the software yet? The link is broken, and hopefully within the next week or so, I will be getting to the programming end of my mill project.
Thanks

Sorry, there's a typo in the link:
freeby.mesanet.com/7i80hd_16_rmesvss6_6.bit
That bitfile is also in the 7I80.zip support distribution zipfile

OK,
Thanks Peter,
Like I say, hopefully in the next week or so, I will be getting back to my mill build, I have been working on a 60" VTL install, and a lot of other things, now all of that is almost wrapped up, so I have been watching all of the activity regarding the 7i80 with you and Marius, and I hope it should be a little easier on my end.
Rick

It should go smoother... (famous last words...)
The problem with mariusl's setup was that he was using a very old bit file
(V13 = about 1.5 years old) and I did not realize that there was an issue with
V13 bitfiles that prevents the driver from starting, so it took much too long to
determine the problem...
