It is possible that it might be being reset by electrical noise.
Do you see the encoder component reset the counts at the same time?

my question is there an situation
where the motion.orient goes true without any given command just for fun ?.

Hi
i was abroad some days,..
so i have now an 2nd problem with the PCI card
can it be that the noise adds up to "shoot" the card i now do not get any encoder signal back any more (tomorrow i exchange the card and see)
i did rewire the whole way from encoder to the lci card and used an shielded twisted pair cable to get rid of noise
do you think stuf like capacitors make sense ?
my plan is to use my backup computer with new cable and see but then i am still in the reset problem
the main issue is that the spindle turns slower 1,7 times per encoder see picture
so i have more than 1 time the index pin
mechanically it would be an nightmare to have same speed at encoder
and then it found out (with oscilloscope when encoder worked ) that the index pin i now use is an SICK encoder M12 Gear which lead to Signal like
ABABABX(And AB AB AB AB) X off , AB AB
And sometimes
ABABABX(And AB AB AB A) X off , B AB
and so on
So i wrote an Comp which only sends one X if X goes off after it was true ,..
so if anyone has an idea or input that would help last stone in the way of being finished with that machine ,..

That shouldn't be necessary, as the system only responds to one edge of the index signal.
(Also, you don't need a custom comp, you can use www.linuxcnc.org/docs/html/man/man9/edge.9.html )
The proximity sensor needs to be connected to the encoder counter, though. (not directly to index-enable, in case you have done that).

Successs
I final hat to fiddle around with the encoder so remark for me for next project
Never Ever have an spindle encoder which runs "faster" than the spindle do it 1:1
speeds are slow for testing
enjoy

Hello Thomas Kamsker,
I am pleased that your machine is working.
Could you post your configuration files here?
For us this would be very helpful.
Greetings from Germany
