It would probably be possible. But you would need to find an openGL programmer who can do Python.
A GladeVCP tab to display the input image file is almost certainly much easier.

What are the chances of superimposing a picture on the plot screen when i open a gcode file?

Latest config with provisions for disabling PWM on program pause or stop and enabling on resume.
