What is benefit of running the Servo Thread at 4kHz instead of the standard 1kHz

Hi Guys,
I'm reading bit through the forum and realized that quite a few people run the Servo Thread at 4kHz with the 7i76e.
I started to wonder what the benefit of the speed increase is.
Will this decreased cycle time improve surface finish?

I'm using a 6i25 with 7i76 and 7i85s and the strech rt preempt iso 64bit. The PC is a I5-4670K. Probably overkill, but that is what I had available at the time.

Thanks,
Denis

Unless you are dealing with extremely high acceleration and velocity with ultra precision it likely won't make much difference on a position commanded servo system.

That said I am running a 4khz servo thread on a machine with torque command input to close the velocity loop.

I use Linear Encoder for positioning and like to up the acceleration and velocity for HSM tool paths.
I only have to change the servo thread in the IN/HAL correct?

I'll give it a try and see how it will work.
