You should be able to use just about any DC servo drive which supports +/- 10V control.
Tacho feedback to the drive is optional, you can run 2 axes in velocity mode and 1 in torque mode if necessary.
(The 7i29 runs in torque mode, with all feedback loops in LinuxCNC)

I really like resolvers, so would try to keep them. But I might be unusual in that respect.

What is the voltage / current rating of the servo drives? If you are replacing one it does seem like it would be sensible to go for a replacement that you will be able to get more of further down the line. (The 7i29 would already have a spare channel, of course)

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationThanks for the reply. The current drives are ASR Servotron. 150v dc 10amp cont. They are a rack style with inbuilt PSU. There is this on ebay Aus,

which is a 150v 15 amp unit. For $250, it would be great, but the condition is unknown, and i dont really need a $250 pile of old parts.

i agree about the resolvers, especially as i already have 5i24, 7i49 ( and others) combo.

Will do a bit more investigating over the next week or so and see what i can work out.

If you can recommend any drives 150v 10A drives, im happy to take a look.

cheers

Matt

I have never used brushed servos, so don't have any first-hand experience.

Might be an option.

I assume that the existing drives take 240V AC input? Either the Pico or the Mesa drive need a DC power source, which adds a bit of work.

You could cast your net a bit wider. Is this the drive?

Is there any indication what is wrong with the existing drive? They don't look super-complicated.

The input to the drive power supply is 3 phase. I think it is 115v per phase. The drive PSU converts to 150v DC not sure on the amps (the one on ebay i linked is 100 amps!!). Not sure what is wrong with the drive. I found some paperwork from a previous owner, stating the drive is not repairable. That was from Baldor repair centre. Wish i had found that before i bought my mesa combo. thats what i get for getting to excited... haha
The Baldor drive you linked seems to be a 60v 12amp unit. Thats assuming the codes run the same as the 150-10-01 that i have.

I wanted to retain the motors power / speed, so i wanted to look for drives of similar specs. Am thinking to use the same DC power supply that i have, but remove the drives and patch in the new ones.

Looking at the ebay one i listed, it looks like there is a bar across the DC outputs to the drives. i was hoping to reconnect new drives up there.

Sorry, I hadn't followed the link you gave.

To be honest $250 for 5 spare drives looks like an excellent buy. I think I would have already bought it if I was in your situation.

(If you look under "sold items" they seem to fetch decent money, you might even make a profit if you decide to move on to different drives later. But for now I would get the machine working as-is.)

Also I see that he is offering "Test before purchase" so it seems low-risk to buy that set.
