Thank you all for the responses!

I inquired with iC-Haus and it looks like the chips will work just fine for me. I'm currently in contact with them to get a price offer. Even better that they're based in the EU.

It'll take a bit of time to cobble together a PCB with said chips, but it's looking promising and I'll post an update with the results.

Hey, jochen91,

I received the ICs and had the boards you generously provided me with produced. However, I am facing some issues and I thought to ask you for advice.

I'm pretty certain the encoders are wired correctly, both to the board and to the 7i97t. However, I am getting virtually no response or indication the linear encoders (or the rotary ones) are even alive or powered on at all. Measuring pins on both ends of the board with an oscilloscope shows me nothing when I move the axis by hand - just a static ≈3V.

Reading the documentation a bit, it seems these scales need 5V on both pins 1 and 9 weirdly. I don't think your board design accounts for that, unless I am misunderstanding something with the jumpers? Either way, I soldered 1 and 9 together to try to get around this, yet there was still nothing to show for it.

Do you have any idea what I may be doing wrong? Honestly, I'm out of ideas at this point.

I managed to resolve it. Turns out those boards are maybe not for the same type of encoder? The sin and cos were inverted and so were their + and -. The connector was also mirrored the wrong way. I managed to cross the DB15 connector pins in a way to get it to work, though, and I can happily report it's basically plug and play after that. All that's left is to play around with the resolution with the jumpers a bit...
