Knuth Mark Super CNC Retrofit - need some help with my first LinuxCNC was created by martin2day
Hello together.
i am Martin form Germany. I have bought a Knuth Mark Super CNC with a fault Controller (GPlus450) and I will not try to fix this old Controller.
The machine has servos with feedback and Maxsine EP100 AC Servo Driver so I think it is not a big deal to change the Controller to LinuxCNC.
I also have the electrical drawings of the machine.
I would use TCP/IP for connection so I think the Mesa 7i76e is fine for me, but this card is not available. So one alternative is the 7i96.
But this card has less in and output and I think I need a lot...
Spindel: CW + CCW + Analog
every Axis 3 switches (end, end, rev)
Lub level
Start/Stop
Drive X, Y, Z on
Cooling Pump
and much more....
So what do you think of this project.
How to start and what hardware I have to use?
Have a nice day
Martin

Hard to see on the PDF and my glasses, but those look like analog drives, not step/dir so 7i76E would not be the best option.
Can you take a picture of the drives where the pin naming is?

Not the same drives, pretty sure, this one is step/dir only, the above is analog only.

Oh, i have to check this, tank you.
The Driver is an Maxsine EP100-3A, this I know exactly... but if the Knuth electrical drawing is right, I don't know... I find many errors there.
So I have to check it.
If the manual is right, can I also connect the analog Driver with encoder output to Linux CNC an make a closed Loop?

If you are eager to get the boards and start wiring, i would go for the Mesa 7i96S with a 7i85 and 7i83 for now and add a 7i84 or two later for more inputs and outputs. This makes it possible to control both types of drives, the step/dir ones and analog ones, even a mix of any of those at the same time.
It is a bit more pricey that say 7i97 for analog or 7i95T for step/dir, and maybe a 7i84, but leaves a lot of options open to expand as you see fit in the future.

Both of the drives have encoder outputs so both can be used to close the loop in LinuxCNC.If the manual is right, can I also connect the analog Driver with encoder output to Linux CNC an make a closed Loop?

Hello,
i have found it very quick... it is as you say... it is controlled by analog signal...
4 Analog Out... 3 for the Axis and 1 for the Spindel.
So what Board did I need to buy?
This one is the "Minimum"? Link
Thank you very much.

YES that is analog for sure, and YES a Mesa 7i97T would be the elegant solution !
That is if 16 inputs and 6 outputs are enough.
If not, add a Mesa 7i84 for 32 more inputs and 16 more outputs, and very easy to wire to Mesa 7i97T with a cut down LAN cable.

Thank you very much. The Mesa 7i97T card is very good for my machine, because every analog output come with a separate drive enable output.
So i have al the 6 extra outputs for other functions... think this is very good for the first start.
Can you give me a hint were i can read something about setup the axis with encoder feedback in LinuxCNC.
As it is a closed Loop Sytstem i think this is the Most difficult but very important thing in this setup... to get a very well runing machine.
Have a nice day

Yes of course, here is detailed wiring and testing and tuning howto, let me know is something seems strange or i might improve.
Thank you.
