I just upgraded my controller to an MX3660 and the Z axis is acting very badly.
File Attachment:

I am only holding the one arrow and as you can see it moves up, it moves down, it moves back up, it drops all the way down. It basically does what ever it feels like doing. It also ONLY moves down 'consistently' no matter which button I hold. I mean it will move up some times, but most of the time its primary direction is down. It is wired exactly the same as the X/Y which move correctly in the proper directions.
Any ideas?

Hi

Afraid can't tell anything from a picture of a stepconf window taken from an oblique angle.

Finish the config and see if the Z axis misbehaves when running the config. If it does, power everything off and swap the connections with the X axis
Does the X now misbehave and the Z go as commanded?
If not the error is in the wiring from controller to motor, if so, it is in the wiring to the controller and thus forth.

It is most likely either to be the wiring or the config, have an especial look at the DIR connection, sounds like it could be a bad connection or shorting to ground, thus permanently at 0.

It is a video. It would not embed so I had to link it.

Before getting to this point I swapped the connections to trouble shoot. When the header was swapped to the X axis, the problem was not apparent. When the motor plug was swapped to the X axis, the previous no-movement problem showed.
Currently, the X axis no longer displays the problem when the motor plugs are swapped, however I will try that again.
There are no shorts (the wires into the headers for the controller are cut back just enough to expose as little copper outside the block)
I will check the Z DIR pin and see what it does with a multimeter.

Thanks for the reply!

If I click on it I go to Photobucket, where it just hangs not showing anything.

I'll take your word for what it does, the advice stands.

Ok. Weird. I will upload it to youtube when I get to work.
I will go over all of the connections again.

The timings are
10000
10000
40000
40000

The X and Y moved fine, should I keep raising the direction and set-up times?

No, it is just several identical controllers all together in one box, the timings should be right for all axes.

The DIR pin will control direction, if there is something wrong with the connection that would make it always go in the same direction.
If the connection is loose, it might sometimes work correctly, other times not.

The reason I asked is because the Z axis didnt even move until I changed those settings from 10/10/20/20 to where they are now. The X/Y have moved just perfectly from the start.

----edit----

I have double and triple checked everything you mentioned.
The only way the 25 pin could be tighter is if I soldered it to the board.

I am beginning to suspect the Z axis motor might be bad.

----edit----
The motor is bad. Swapping the plugs to the x axis and the gantry moves smoothly 0"-12"-0"
