already tried what some guides tell me to do with 10.10.10.10 and also with 192.168(....), but no connection established. anytime i try to open my config it gives me this error:

Why are you trying to use a parallel port config with Mesa 7i96S?
And why did you use "sudo" where you were not supposed to?
:)
Start with a new install, then follow this:

Yes but with a new install ethernet is not yet configured with a static ip, so im having quite some trouble.
here are some pictures of some commands . im using eeprom connection so i thought a 10.10.10.10 ip would work.

It appears you have not set a static IP address
using the network manager GUI

tommylights post gives the instructions for this

www.itzgeek.com/how-tos/linux/debian/how...-9-ubuntu-16-04.html

newer versions of debian FORCE IPV6

Thats not right. I have had no trouble setting a static ip address 10.10.10.1 on kernels up to  V 6.1 the bleeding edge version thats not even in Debian 12. The documentation covers it nicely. (if you know where to look)

If there is a struggle to find information, then something needs to change. Documentation needs updating or some form of re-organization. I am going to work on it this winter once I have some free time. Also the introduction of Network Manager in Dec 2019 does now FORCE IPV6, so watch out for that, it's driver specific from what I have seen.

From my limited research, I believe 7i96s require LinuxCNC 2.9 to run properly.

From my limited research, I believe 7i96s require LinuxCNC 2.9 to run properly.

Not anymore, support for 7i96S have been added to 2.8.4
see here: forum.linuxcnc.org/27-driver-boards/4724...-or-get-7i96s#255476

The release page for 2.8.4  also mention in the changelog   ( linuxcnc.org/2022/09/20/LinuxCNC-2.8.4/)
  • Add driver support for Mesa 7i96S
  • Add pncconf support fo Mesa 7i96S
