I installed linuxcnc2.9 from source on my debian10 system, no boot icon found, only boot from terminal, how should I configure my CNC

Sounds like you have built a Run in place system. stepconf should run from the command line once the rip-environment is set.
To get the menu, you need to build and install the .Deb packages.
