Also completely disconnected enable wires as recommended

Thanks so much for the help!!!!
I cannot believe I am having this much of a problem... this will be the 3rd CNC system I have built... the first in linuxcnc but that shouldn't make this much of a difference...
I figure I have done something dumb or I have a defective piece of hardware.

Try to jog with the PGUP/PGDOW keys on the keyboard or the Z axis on screen

Control signal amplitude is 24 V as default. If it is 12 V, please set the S2 (Figure 2) selector switch to 5 V first, then
connect 1KΩ resistor; If it is 5V, please set the S2 to 5V.

i have the same problem. change the pin 6 to z direction and pin 7 to z step and it's work for me.
