Axis direction problems (possibly due to upgrade?) was created by stewarma
Hi all,
I have a small cnc router which i have used for about two years now.
I recently took it apart to change the nuts to anti-backlash and while i had it
torn down waiting for parts I updated from 6.06 to 10.04 ubuntu emc2.
Everything seemed ok until I powered on the machine today. The y-axis works
perfectly, better than before. The X and Z axis however will only travel in one direction.
If i tell it to jog either way it goes only one.
I've tried switching the step/direction signals inverted and uninverted but this
made the motors make only one step per jog.
I also upgraded from an old celeron based machine to an amd dual core. The machine
runs the rest of ubuntu fine.
Any ideas what I could do to troubleshoot?
thanks in advance for any and all help.
Matt

It does sound like you are not getting the direction signal to the drive for X and Z.
Verify with Show Hal Configuration that the direction pins are changing states when you change directions.
Swap input to Y with X and Z drives to verify if the drives are still ok.

Hi,
I upgraded Linux CNC from version 2.7pre4 to 2.7pre5 and happens that the Y axis only goes in one direction then I tried swapping the motor connectors and the problem moves to the other axis, I changed the breakout board cnc, I swaped the drivers, I replaced the cables and limit microswitches, I turned off the microswictes for homing and limit on the machine configuration, I swapped the cables step for dir and the problem persists on the Y axis (from Axis GUI). My linuxcnc 2.7pre5 doesn't show HAL configuration.
Help me please. Thanks for any help.

Sounds like you dont have a direction signal on Y, if you are using step / dir?
You need to post your ini and hal files, for us to be able to see if this is a config problem
regards

Thanks so much of prompt reply, in fact I had a cable (5 volt supply) of the driver that had come off the terminal ferrule.
Thanks again. The silliest things make you lose patience.
By the way, the new trajectory planner marked a new era, my router has become different, more aggressive, it scares me...I am very grateful of the work you do
