Many years ago I worked as a programmer and dealt with a number of serial controlled devices. I had an add on serial port card with custom jacks along with what was then the standard on board serial ports.
I had a weird issue with my computer and no serial ports worked properly after that. I ended up having to replace both the PSU and the Mobo to get it to work.
