The USDT has no PCIE slot (well it does have a MiniPCIE slot for a wireless card) The SFF has 3 low profile PCIE slots and one low profile PCI slot

Am I better just getting a newer J1900 or mini itx with i3/i5?

This may not matter unless you have very dense backplots you need to see
A new I5 would be as fast or faster but cost a lot more (the motherboard alone would
cost as much as a complete Elite 8300 =~ $80 with shipping) The down side of a used
computer is that there's no warranty, so if it dies, you are out of luck (though parts are
very cheap for corporate desktops)

We have used a lot of the dells and most work great. I think the 780 is good - avoid the 790 though.
Just wondering if someone could expand on this comment?
Thanks,
Marty.

Yep, me too, I got some 980 SFF and these are really good. What is the problem with the 790? There are models that do have 4 pci/pcie slots, whicht would be very nice.
