Yes (that may be why you get no Yellow light)

The selection was already at 100 and greyed out so you couldn't change it.

By disable ipv6 you mean check the box that says require ipv4 for this connection?

yes (it can also be disabled in the interfaces file if you go that way)

Well I still can't ping it but at least I can now select it in the network manager.
