Ok, so below are some good pictures of the SKRv1.3 SPI cabling.

I've also tested powering the controller board independently via the USB port. With no issues with SPI connection. However, I would not recommend this and to ensure that you have a common ground between the RPi and the controller board.

Hi tomp,

Just noticed in your photo that you have +5v power coming from the controller board and have the power plugged into the RPi to. Not sure if this would be causing your issue but not a good idea to tie the grounds and the positive rails of the two together.

As Scott pointed out, you really do not want to connect the 5V "rail" of 2 devices which each product 5V outputs. But if you are trying to use logic signal between 2 boards, those signals are referenced from Ground so normally you just connect the grounds of the 2 devices together and now the signal voltages above ground can be sensed by the other device(s).

And the reason for not connecting the 2 5V outputs is that one might generate 4.95V and the other might be generating 5.15V and now you have a difference in potential, probably reverse power flow, excess power drain/heat and maybe other errors with 2 different potentials.

Hello,
Sorry I missed these messages,
I had put the project away until i get another board.

I got the 'skr v1.3' from
Code:
http://www.eak-electronic.com/index.php?route=common/home
there's a tiny thai/englisg flag icon to choose language
but its no longer listed, so the info is useless,

These boards are rare-er than parallel ports.

I will re re re re do the spi wiring with ribbin cable
and skip the serial
( thats where i had 5v and gnd from rpi , well,  maybe try with gnd but not 5v)

And will also wait for a new MKS v1.3
( the SKR 1.4 turbo was another lie that eventually got marked out of stock, and refunded )

thanks again I will monitor more closely while waiting

1 Question: do you have a sampe ngc file of a 3d Print?
I wonder if I need custom M1xx codes.

Hi tomp,

I had to order another board a couple of days ago as I stupidly put a driver in backwards.. The chip shortage may be making these harder to get. I placed the order, but no order confirmation. The CN sellers are normally pretty responsive.

I have a set of custom M-code available for 3d printing. They are on my GitHub repository.

github.com/scottalford75/LinuxCNC-3D-Printing

I can share a simple 3d print ngc file if you like.
