I have just compiled emc2-2.4.6 in simulator mode and I homed all axis. When running, a message is displayed:

[Yellow !] Program exceeds machine maximum on axis Z

I clicked 'Run anyway' button: some messages are displayed

"all joints must be homed before going into coordinated mode"
"can't do that (EMC_TASK_PLAN_RUN) in manual mode"

Source axis.ngc indicates "To run this code anyway you might have to Touch Off the Z axis"
but after hagin homed all axis, touch off button remains disabled (dimmed).
I cannot find out how to touch off Z axis.

Thanks in advance.

Once the E-Stop (mouse or F1) is off and your in Run Mode (mouse or F2) then jog the Z axis down a bit with either the PgDown key or the mouse then using the touch off dialog (make sure the Z is still the selected axis) touch off in coordinate system 1 or G54 I forget which is the choice in 2.4.

Disclaimer all the above is from my memory as I'm not at a computer with EMC installed...

OK, I tried to do what you indicated but:

- Is th Z axis the Joint 2?
- Z axis is not selectable anyway, or at least, it is not evident how to select it in the GUI.
- I hit PgDown and the Joint 2 gets more negative with each hit, is it correct?
- Touch off button stays dimmed, disabled.
- All this should be done after or before homing all axes? or just Z axis?

Disclaimer accepted but at least, the GUI could be more intuitive.

I actually thing the GUI is very intutitive for a CNC control... You should open up the other GUI's like Mini, Keystick, and others like commercial GUI's. The Axis GUI has thousands of lines of code and I must admit a large part of the code is preventing the machine and person from causing damage to either one.

You home the axis first then touch off.

Are you using the Axis interface?

I'm not exactly sure what your doing or where your at now.

Which config are you using?

I made:
./configure --enable-run-in-place --enable-simulator --enable-build-documentation

make

I works fine after building it.

OK, I am doing the following (according directions previously posted):

1. I start EMC2 up.

2. Toggle Emergency atop [F1]

3. Toggle Machine Power [F2]

4. Press [PgDn] a couple of times to move Joint 2 to a value (-10.6576)

Result : [Home All] button stays enabled; [Touch off] button remains disabled (dimmed)

I have run through a few of the sample configs, and none of them have a greyed-out touch-off button.

Are you using a sample config, and if so, which one?

After a bit more experimentation, I suspect you are using a config with non-trivial kinematics.
You probably need to press "$" to switch the machine from "joint" mode to "cartesian" mode.
If you see 1,2,3 rather than x,y,z in the display, then this is the situation.

Does Emc allow touching off before homing? If the home all is available, and the steps taken seem to lack the home step, I'm guessing you need to home first.
