Pondering on how to do this, reading following manual linuxcnc.org/docs/html/lathe/lathe-user.html

4.1. X Touch Off
-5 Select Touch Off and pick Tool Table then enter the position or the diameter.

4.2. Z Touch Off
-6 Select Touch Off and pick Tool Table and set the position to 0.0.

There is no Pick Tool Table in AXIS. 2.7.11 ---- So how do I do this?

Want to go the easy way to start with audiable touch off probe, later on I want to adapt electronic probe for this. Marposs T18

Cheers
Bengt

In 2.7.11 there are two separate buttons. Touch-off and Tool Touch-off.

Use the "Tool Touch-off" one to touch-off tools.

It might or might not automatically issue a G43 (Touchy doesn't)

Unfortunately it looks that the function to write directly to tool table is not there any more.

Bit frustrating not to be able to do this.

Those numbers are already in tool table, right?

How do I enter new numbers automatically for new tools?

What do you mean by "automatically"

You press the touch off button (with the appropriate axis selected) then enter the number in the window that pops up, that you want put in that column of the tool table.

If you are talking about an automatic tool touch off routine. You will have to write that in g-code, save it as a sub program, then call it with an MDI call (probably using a Glade or PYVCP button.)

Home
insert new tool not in tool table, jog to position, push button for values set into tool table.

How do you set new tools?

You need to edit the tool table (which is a menu option in Axis) to add a new tool and to set the orientation, radus and angles.
But the offsets can be calculated by the tool touch-off button.

I have one too (tool 1) that always has zero offsets, That's my master tool.

To set up a new tool I face off a part with tool 1 at the Z = 0 position (in work coordinates) then put in the new tool. I jog to less than 6mm from the newly machined face then jog away from the work until a 6mm tool shank slips through the gap. Then touch-off that tool Z to 6mm.
Then I take a test cut for a few mm of dia, measure the resulting diameter and touch-of X to that diameter.

But I only have 9 numbered tool holders, to don't need to add new tools very often.

OK, thanks will have a go tomorrow.

It was the documents that confused me as there are things that obviously no longer exist.
