Did you change it to match the above post with the slight pin name changes?

And the MDI button still works?

now about naming the pin.
do i use the name in the list halui.joint.0.home as in <halpin>halui.joint.0.home</halpin> in the xml file
or is it a name i can pick ? <halpin>just-home-x</halpin>

then bring that name to the hal file.

i have this now. MDI stiil works and the other one doesn't(not suppose to right now-no link)
took the other two buttons out til i get ONE right. when i put just-home-x in the hal file, says doesn't exist when starting EMC
i've tried
net home-x just-home-x => pyvcp.halui.joint.0.home
net home-x halui.joint.1.home => pyvcp.just-home-x
net home-x just-home-x => pyvcp.home-x
net home-x home-x => pyvcp.just-home-x
net home-x just-home-x => halui.joint.0.home
net home-x halui.joint.0.home => just-home-x
net just-home-x halui.joint.0.home <-- this one started emc but didn't work

the second location(pin) should be what i make up or the pin in the list halui.joint.0.home

<pyvcp>
<labelframe text="MDI Commands">
<button>
<halpin>"rapid-to-home"</halpin>
<text>"Rapid to Home"</text>
<font>('Helvetica',10)</font>
</button>

<button>
<halpin>"just-home-x"</halpin>
<text>"Home X"</text>
<font>('Helvetica',10)</font>
</button>
</pyvcp>

looking at examples
net just-home-x <= halui.joint.0.home <-- should work

i found
net both-home-y <= parport.0.pin-11-in

Ok time to stop guessing... some important info to know

When you add a button with pyvcp and create a hal pin it adds pyvcp. to the pin name so your

<halpin>"just-home-x"</halpin>

becomes the hal pin pyvcp.just-home-x

So now we know the full name of your button hal pin you can create the net command to connect the two hal pins.

net home-x halui.joint.0.home <= pyvcp.just-home-x
