Do you have a common ground between MPG and Field power?

It needs both.

( You must have field GND connected to 5V ground for this to work )

No, its your external wiring

The 7I76 MPG inputs need 5V signals relative to field power common

That will not work because the MPG inputs (on TB5)
do not have a common ground with the MPGs

Yes, the field power common and 5V common must be connected
if your  MPG runs from the 5V supply.
