Step length is measured in nS (nanoseconds) not Hz.
Make sure it is set to at least 5000nS.

Normally the servo thread is 1ms = 1000000 ns, a 20usec (20000 ns) servo thread will not work on most hardware
(the display above shows PWM /PDM frequencies but these are not used with the 7I76)
Not sure what the default watchdog setting is with pncconf but typically it woud be 10 or 50 ms (10000000 or 50000000 ns)

I think that we are talking at crossed-purposes.
I am talking about step pulse length, not the base or servo frequencies. This is in a different tab, later in the sequence. (And might be called "step on-time" or something.)

This is the screen that sets the pulse step, these are the default settings. I tried these settings with 60ipm feed and 10 ips accel with 200 and 500 steps/rev. Also tried at 5000 step on time. I try to use the test/tune feature but can’t get any action. When I activate this feature, one of my motors bumps what I can only imagine is one step. There is a Hal scope feature in the test/tune feature. Don’t see any action there either. Both LED’s are lit on the 7i76 board. Drivers are getting power(green flashing). Motors are getting power(they have resistance to movement but they are also getting near 120 degrees F after about 30mins of monkeying around. Disconnected wires from drivers and checked voltage. Direction voltage is constant 5 volts no matter what. Pulse voltage aternates between .2 and negative 10 volts twice per second when test/tune is opened. I just don’t know where to go from here.

This sounds very much like step and direction outputs have been swapped.
A multimeter won't see the step pulses, but it will see the dir change polarity every half second...

I tried swapping pulse/direction wiring and tried swapping polarity too just for kicks, no luck. Did the 5i25 pins that I posted look right to you? Have you ever used the HAL occiliscope? I can’t seem to see anything going on there either. My Linux install tested ok but what the heck am I doing wrong?

The firmware on the 5I25 looks wrong (looks like 7I77 firmware)
to update to 7i76 firmware run:
sudo mesaflash --device 5i25 --write 5i25_7i76x2.bit
and then
sudo mesaflash --device 5i25 --reload
(the 5i25_7i76x2.bit file is in the 5i25.zip support archive from mesa)
to update to 7i76 firmware run:
sudo mesaflash --device 5i25 --write 5i25_7i76x2.bit

Wow has it been a year already!!??!! Well I’m back at it. I tried the above commands and Linux claims it can’t find the file. Fine. It was in the downloads folder. So I moved it into the LinuxCNC configs folder and it still claims it can’t find it!! Argh. help?

The file needs to be in the folder from which you are issuing the command (or you can provide a full path)
