I have tried loadrt hm2_eth board_ip="192.168.1.121" config=" num_encoders=6 num_pwmgens=0 num_stepgens=1 sserial_port_0=000xxx sserial_port_1=000xxx with same result.

Green led is not blinking, so there is somthing wrong.

What kind of cable is used between the 7I77 and 7I80?

I flashed the 7i80db with the 7i80db_16_7i76x2_7i77x2D.bit
After reconfiguring my hal-file, linuxcnc starts again without error.
My problem is that I don't get any signals from the input on the 7i77. I have 24V on INPUT-00 but it shows off in HalView.

Is it possible that the 7i77 is plugged into a DB25 connector that is now set up to be for a 7i76?

I use this Cable www.elfa.se/en/sub-cable-db25-maxxtro-aa-305-03/p/12511401 it is a shielded 25 pin d-sub Cable.

Andy, I don't Think so. it is connected to the third db25 connector. If I connect it to any other connecter linuxcnc won't start.

That may be a problem, thats not a IEEE-1284 compatible cable so will likely have a lot of crosstalk between signals

(IEEE-1284 cables have a separate ground wire for each signal)

There have also been some improvements in the SmartSerial FPGA firmware to make it more robust
when dealing with poor signal quality due to wiring issues so updating the firmware may help
(I will have to rebuild since the 7I80 firmwares have not been updated for more than a year)

Yes, that could be it. Strange it works perfect with the other bitfile, but maybe som other pairs are use in that configuration.
I shall see if I can get one or borrow one.

btw, I'm just ready with the tool change sequence. It's only the carousel left now.
First toolchange

So that does suggest another problem (I do notice a comment in my firmware that says that config just barely fits in a -16 part)

What actual hardware do you have?
