This might indicate a bad or incorrect .bit file. Can you tell me the bitfile name, length and date?

Peter ,there are 6 different .bit files in the folder /lib/firmware/hm2/5i23
How do I know which has been selected, I have selected from sample configurations_hm2-servo_5i23

In your ini file the CONFIG line tells you what bit file your using.
In the Integrators Manual there is some info on the different bit files.

Thanks John as you can tell I'm at the foot of the learning curve!
This is the line from 5i23.ini CONFIG="firmware=hm2/5i23/SVST8_4.BIT num_encoders=3 num_pwmgens=3 num_stepgens=0"
Properties for SVST8_4.BIT: 207.5KB (212462 bytes)
