As I see here very often questions to connections of the 7i76 or 7i76e, I offer my connection sheet as supporting document.
It may be of help to others.

@PCW: could you please double check my infos and it might be good to make this sticky.

A 7i73 Sheet may follow soon ;-)

Thank you for spending the time to do this, It looks great!

I have only 2 minor niggles

1. On the VFD interface, you would not normally use the analog 10V to power the digital (enable and direction)
control inputs (there is often a 12 or 24V supply in the VFD for this)

2. Its suggested to use the 10.10.10.10 IP address for LinuxCNC so you don't end up with the
real time Ethernet IP address range overlapping a DHCP pool of local network addresses
(set W3 up instead of down to use 10.10.10.10)

OK, some changes:
  • Page for jumper settings and basic information has been splited in two pages
  • Added a note to change Jumper W3 to use the 10.10.10.10 IP address, the hal line is unchanged, as this way all jumpers may stay in it's default positions.
  • Added a page to show how to connect inductive proximity switches NPN (with pull up resistor) and PNP without.
  • Changed the VFD connections according to PCW's comments
Should I add something more?

This is very nice , Good Job.

Two things, I see a 10K for the analog inputs, But what is the device that they are for.

Norbert you have done a great job. I have attached a diagram showing PNP and NPN three wire sensors hookup to a mesa 7I77 card, I think it would be great to add someting similar to your document to help others.

Hallo Benb,

thanks for sharing that information, IMHO it is allready included in the latest version of the document.

Just as 4 wire version with one wire unconnected.

I just noticed a typo with the MPG encoders.

enc1.count and enc0.count are the wrong way round.

It would also be worth noting that the earths on the field power and 5V sections need to be tied together.

eg. TB3.23 needs to be connected to TB1.8

This would not be an issue the way you have powered the board in your diagrams but I was using a separate 5 volt power supply at P3. Somewhere I found a post by PCW about this that got my encoders working :)

Hi rodw,

thanks for reporting the error in my sheet.
Attached the corrected release ;-)

I did not mention to connect together the grounds of the power connections, because if you use my connection sheet it is not needed.
Please Note, if you use two power supplies, you need to change Jumpers W1 position!
