Hi Peter,
I wonder if i can use the above mentioned setup for serial absolute encoders? I have everything else figured out, i think.
I already talked about it with Andy and he pointed me to a config that uses two 7i74 as half SSerial and half SSI so i will be trying that when i start working on the machine, next year (seems so far when i say it like that )
Another thing, can i do this?

Thank you,
Tom

Yes, that should all work but will need custom firmware
( really just copy/paste/cobble some existing pin definition files together to create a new one and then recompile )

Peter, thank you very much.
The idea is to use a 5i25/6i25/7i92 connected to 7i77 and 7i74, 4 ports of the 7i74 ( at least, I need 5 if the encoders work with it ) to serial absolute encoders, and 2 ports of the 7i74 to 7i70 and 7i71 respectively.
This is due to 1. Simpler wiring and troubleshooting and 2. I already have all the cards and much more.
The encoders are for 4 servo motors and 1 spindle so I can make due with 4 . I already have new 2500 cpr encoders with index but will try to avoid using them due to mechanical work needed to mount them.
When I have the chance, I will look into modifying the firmware, that is if I can get those encoders working. On the schematics those encoders have 4 wires for TX/RX, one for "richtung" or direction and one for "takt" or clock. I could not find more info on them, except some of them can send 1024 times the position and the one on the spindle does that 6 times per second. That is what I recall as I have not been near that machine for over a month as I was waiting for the Mesa cards.
Regards,
Tom
